Utah health officials are not expecting to see H1N1 flu vaccine doses until the middle of October, even though it is expected that doses will begin to ship from sources by the end of this month. Moreover, it is unclear how many doses the state will receive so local health departments do not yet have final plans as to how they will be dispensed.

The Salt Lake Valley Health Department has preliminary plans to distribute doses to private providers, clinics and to schools through visiting nurses. The Utah County Health Department has indicated that its plans depend on the number of doses received. If they get in the neighborhood of 5,000 doses, they will administer them themselves. If they get significantly more than that, they will do their own vaccinations as well distribute doses to private providers. The Weber-Morgan Health Department is planning to open clinic sites throughout its service area including locations at the health department, schools, the Weber State campus and the fairgrounds.

To stay up on when the vaccination doses will arrive and to learn how you can receive one, check in periodically with the Utah Department of Health or your local health department for current information.
